Zentropa admissions over 1 million so far this year

Nine new Danish films have premiered so far this year, and of them the Zentropa productions have accounted for 75% of all admissions.

Overall, 1.6 million tickets have been sold to nine new Danish films this year, and three Zentropa productions have accounted for 1.2 million of them: Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland’s A Conspiracy of Faith has sold 700,000 tickets, Danish director Thomas Vinterberg’s The Commune more than 300,000 and Jesper W. Nielsen’s The Day Will Come has just passed 200,000.

Zentropa has so far filmed three of Danish author Jussi Alder-Olsen’s best-selling thrillers, the other two being The Keeper of Lost Causes and The Absent One, both directed by Danish director Mikkel Nørgaard. The last film instalment of the series, The Purity of Vengeance, is currently in pre-production.

Zentropa has another release scheduled for October this year. You Disappear stars Trine Dyrholm, Nikolaj Lie Kaas & Michael Nyqvist and is directed and written by Peter Schønau Fog.

You Disappear is the third novel by Christian Jungersen and the first to be adapted into a film. The book was a huge success in 2012, where it received great reviews and was on the Danish top 10 list for the whole year. The book got Readers’ Book Award and was also nominated for Politiken’s Literature Prize.

In the story, the respected and well-liked school principal Frederik (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) is arrested and charged with fraud in the millions. But as it turns out Frederik has had a brain tumour for the past three years that has changed his personality. With the help of his wife Mia (Trine Dyrholm) and his lawyer Bernard (Michael Nyqvist), they do everything possible to get him acquitted and save his family.
