Yellow Bird to adapt Åsa Schwarz novels into television series

The Scandinavian production company Yellow Bird has announced it is developing a television series based on a novel from Swedish author Åsa Schwarz.

The novel, titled The Seven Keys, follows one of seven IT professionals in the world who holds a key to the internet, Rebecka. Rebecka is one of seven international IT profiles carrying a key to the Internet. They meet once every quarter in Washington, to update the system managing all traffic on the Internet. If they fail to do so, the Net will go down and all modern societies will fall.

When one key holder after another becomes the target of an attack, Rebecka realises that she must go underground. Aided by her extreme hacker know-how, Rebecka and her companion do all they can to solve the mystery. The clues are pointing every which way – to Chinese intelligence services, to neo-Nazi organisations, and to the NSA. The book has been published in Sweden and Denmark back in August.

Yellow Bird is some of the biggest Nordic Noir series that kickstarted the popularity of Scandinavian crime, namely The Millennium Trilogy [+] and Wallander.

The series will have eight to ten episodes and producer Marianne Gray is currently searching for a script-writer for the series.
