Watch the trailer for The Ash Lad: In the Hall of the Mountain King

Espen “Ash Lad”, a poor farmer’s son, embarks on a dangerous quest with his brothers to save the princess from a vile troll known as the Mountain King – in order to collect a reward and save his family’s farm from ruin.

The story of the troll inspired Edvard Grieg’s famous In the Hall of the Mountain King (which you can hear in the trailer). The music was composed for the theatre play Peer Gynt, which was written by Henrik Ibsen. In the play, the troll (‘Dovregubben’) is the troll king that Peer Gynt invents in a fantasy.

The Ash Lad: In the Hall of the Mountain King stars Vebjørn Enger, Eili Harboe (Thelma, read our interview here), and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen (Cave). The film looks a little more child-oriented than we had hoped, so hopefully it will find an international audience.
