The streaming service Walter Presents has acquired the UK rights to the Danish television drama series Ride Upon the Storm.
The story centres on a family of priests: Johannes, Elisabeth and their sons August and Christian. Johannes is God-like to his sons – he gives, loves, and punishes. His favouritism for August and his disappointment with Christian forces both into making desperate choices in order to either gain his love or break free from him.
Ride Upon the Storm is created by Adam Price, who is also behind Borgen.
Walter Iuzzolino, creator of the curated foreign language streaming service Walter Presents said: “Ride Upon the Storm completely resets the standards for scripted excellence around the world, proving yet again, that when it comes to extraordinary storytelling, Danish drama keeps reinventing itself, refusing to be boxed into the Scandi detective corner and defying categorisation. A piece of this stature comes on the market only every ten years, it really is that good, and I’m absolutely delighted to have secured it for UK audiences.”
Ride Upon the Storm won three Robert Awards as well as the Nordic Film and TV Fond Prize for Screenwriting.
Season two will air in Denmark in autumn 2018.
