The Icelandic film Under the Tree [+] has been awarded the Special Jury Award at the Denver Film Festival over the weekend. This is the film’s fourth international award.

Directed by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson, Under the Tree is about a conflict between next-door neighbours over a tree in the backyard and the shadow it casts. The conflict begins as a typical suburban spat but soon begins to spiral unexpectedly and violently out of control.

We recently gave the film a ★★★★★ review, which you can read here.

Currently Under the Tree is doing well at the cinemas, sitting at second place at the box office for the year with just under 42,000 admissions.
