The Spanish group Telefónica has picked up the Danish dramas Below the Surface and Ride Upon the Storm to air on the Movistar Series and Movistar Series Xtra channels this month.
Below the Surface is a hostage drama set in Copenhagen. After fifteen people are held captive in a subway train in the city, all the city officials must work to solve the situation. The series was created by Kasper Barfoed and stars Paprika Steen, Jakob Oftebro, Johannes Lassen and Sara Hjort Ditlevsen. It premiered on Danish television earlier this year and has since aired in multiple territories including the UK.
Ride Upon the Storm is a brand-new Danish series that stars Lars Mikkelsen. The story centres on a family of priests that traces its roots back more than 250 years: Johannes (Mikkelsen), Elisabeth (Ann Eleonora Jorgensen), and their sons, August (Morten Hee Andersen) and Christian (Simon Sears). Johannes is God-like to his sons – he gives, loves, and punishes. His favouritism for August and his disappointment with Christian forces both into making desperate choices in order to either gain his love or break free from him. Their path will lead us into war and encounters between different religions, seen through the intimate lens of a family drama.
Below the Surface will shortly be released on Hulu in North America, and season two of Ride Upon the Storm will launch in autumn 2018.
