Norwegian director André Øvredal, who is known for directing Troll Hunter in 2010, has returned home to Norway to make a Norwegian-American fantasy based on Norse mythology.

Titled Mortal in English and Torden in Norwegian, the film will star Irish actor Robert Sheehan as Norwegian-American Eric, who has been hiding in the mountains of Norway for three years after surviving and repressing a traumatic event. Eric possesses a power he cannot understand or control, but with the help of a young female psychologist they manage to unravel his story, whcih turns out to have profound ramifications in Norse Mythology.

“My goal is to again bring the amazing Norwegian mythology out to a worldwide audience, this time through a modern, action-oriented character journey,” Øvredal told Deadline.com.

Production is set to take place in Norway this summer and will be produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Automatik, Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken of 42, and John Einar Hagen of Nordisk Film Production.
