Tom Hanks to star in the American remake of A MAN CALLED OVE

An American remake of the hit Swedish film A Man Called Ove is coming, because of course there has to be a remake.

Don’t get too upset, however, as Hollywood favourite Tom Hanks has been cast as Ove. Furthermore, his wife Rita Wilson is set to produce the film along with SF Studios.

A Man Called Ove has been a huge success in both film and literature forms; the novel has been translated into 43 languages and spent 77 consecutive weeks on the New York Times’ best-selling list. The film has had 1.7 million admissions and Swedish actor Rolf Lassgård won the Guldbagge for his performance.

SF Studios working with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson is part of their strategy to expand into the English language (though we love their Scandinavian films!). They are currently working on several projects, including I am Victor, which is directed by Iceland’s Baltasar Kormakur.

No news yet on when the American remake of A Man Called Ove will be released, but lets hope it doesn’t become just another pointless remake.
