Tobias Lindholm’s ‘A War’ heading to Venice

Danish director Tobias Lindholm’s A War (Krigen) will be screening at the upcoming Venice Film Festival as part of the ‘Horizons’ program. This marks the international premiere for the film, which follows company commander Claus Michael Pedersen (Pilou Asbaek) and his men stationed in Helmand, Afghanistan. Meanwhile back in Denmark, with a husband at war and three children missing their father, everyday life is a struggle for Claus’ wife Maria. During a routine mission, the soldiers are caught in heavy Taliban crossfire. In order to save his men, Claus makes a decision that ultimately sees him return to Denmark accused of a war crime.

A War will be the only Nordic film heading to the Venice Film Festival, though Swedish director Daniel Alfredson’s American thriller Go With Me and Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur’s Everest will also be screening.

The Venice Film Festival is one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals, and runs between the 2nd and the 12th of September.
