Thomas Engström’s WEST OF LIBERTY begins filming

The new Swedish/German television series West of Liberty has begun filming in Germany.

Adapted from the political thrillers by Thomas Engström, the series will follow former STASI agent Ludwig Licht who is now running a bar in Berlin. However, Clive Barner, the head of the CIA in Berlin, drags him back into work. Barner asks Licht to investigate Lucien Gell, of whistle-blowing site Hydraleaks, who is accused by the site’s former spokesperson, Faye Morris, of being responsible for the death of three Americans in Marrakesh. She had narrowly escaped the attack herself and wants revenge.

German actor Wotan Wilke Möhring will play Ludwig Licht.

West of Liberty is written by Sara Heldt and Donna Sharp, directed by Barbara Eder and will be filmed in Berlin, Cologne, Morocco and Sweden. It is a co-production between SVT and ZDF.
