THEY HAVE ESCAPED heading for Venice and Toronto

They Have Escaped

Childhood dreams turn to infatuation, desire and ultimately the violence of reality. In this world there is only one option: escape. THEY HAVE ESCAPED is the new feature film by J-P Valkeapää, acclaimed director of THE VISITOR. The film is set for both Venice Days and Toronto IFF.

The film tells the story of two isolated teenagers, seeking endless escapes from a society that has alienated them. The girl, an attractive extrovert and the boy, a stuttering introvert, meet in a juvenile detention center. When the boy becomes infatuated with the girl it takes little effort to encourage him to run away with her. Thus begins their journey, into drugs, sex and pushing the boundaries of absolute weirdness. Theirs is a life of endless escapes, from an unforgiving all engulfing world.

THEY HAVE ESCAPED is written by J-P Valkeapää & Pilvi Peltola and directed by J-P Valkeapää. It is produced by Aleksi Bardy for Helsinki-filmi and co-produced by Raymond van der Kaaij for Revolver.
