The winners of the Bergen International Film Festival

The winners of the 2016 Bergen International Film Festival have been announced, with a selection of local and international documentaries picking up awards.

Among the list of winners is The War Show, a documentary that follows the growth of the war in Syria through the eyes of one of the Syrian activists. The best Norwegian short film went to The Committee, which has successfully been travelling around film festivals all over the globe.

An extensive look at the documentaries shown at BIFF will be included in our next magazine, including interviews with all the filmmakers.

Checkpoints Award: The War Show (directed by Obaidah Zytoon and Andreas M. Dalsgaard)

Documentaire Extraordinaire: Brothers of the Night (directed by Patric Chiha)

Cinema Extraordinaire: House of Others (directed by Rusudan Glurjidze)

Best Norwegian Documentary: Barneraneren (directed by Jon Haukeland)

Best Norwegian Short Documentary: Boys (directed by Sunniva Sundby)

Best Norwegian Short Film: The Committee (directed by Gunhild Enger and Jenni Toivoniemi)

Best Student Film (Bergen): Her er Ella (directed by Kristina Daveronis)

Bergen Tidende’s Talent Award: David Alraek (he showed his film Til Månen med Bestefar)

Youth Documentary Award: The Crossing (directed by George Kurian)
