THE SQUARE is nominated for a Golden Globe

The nominees for the Golden Globes have been announced for 2018, with Ruben Östlund’s The Square (unsurprisingly) nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. This comes after the film won six European Film Awards over the weekend.

The Square is up against In the Fade (Germany), Loveless (Russia), First They Killed my Father (Cambodia), and A Fantastic Woman (Chile).

Currently, the film is also Sweden’s selection for the Academy Awards 2018. For the last five years, the Golden Globe winner in the foreign language category has gone on to win the Academy Award.

Östlund told SVT: “What’s cool is that I’ve tried to make a movie that’s wild and entertaining with content that I think is very important, and people have not seen any contradiction in that. It’s not very conventional and the US industry is usually a bit more conservative in its choices.”

Meanwhile, Alexander Skarsgård has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his role in Big Little Lies.

The Golden Globes is held on the 7th of January 2018 at the Beverly Hills Hilton.
