THE SQUARE is among the first European Film Award winners

The European Film Academy has announced the first round of winners for the 2017 European Film Awards, with The Square [+] winning European Production Designer.

The Square is Ruben Östlund’s [+] Palme d’Or-winner which follows Christian, the respected curator of a contemporary art museum. His next show is “The Square”, an installation which invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum’s PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for “The Square”. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis.

A seven-member jury convened in Berlin to decide on the winners in seven categories. Josefin Åsberg won the award for Production Design on The Square.

The prizes will be presented at the 30th edition of the European Film Awards ceremony on the 9th of December 2017.
