THE SQUARE currently screening in Melbourne

In Melbourne and want to see some new Nordic films? The Square is now screening at Cinema Nova!

The Academy Award-nominated film and Palme d’Or winner comes from Swedish director Ruben Ostlund, and follows Christian (Claes Bang), the respected curator of a contemporary art museum. His next show is ‘The Square’, an installation which invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into shameful situations. Meanwhile, the museum’s PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for “The Square”. The response is overblown and sends Christian, as well as the museum, into an existential crisis.

We spoke to Ruben Ostlund before he won the Palme d’Or and his career took off, and you can read that interview here.

You can get tickets here.

National treasure David Stratton recommended the film, and you can watch that below.
