‘The Reunion 2’ proves successful in Finland

Finnish production company Solar Films has dominated the Finnish film charts with the sequel to the Finnish remake of Denmark’s Klassefesten: titled The Reunion 2 (or Luokkakokous 2 – Polttarit in Finnish).

Released on the 2nd of November by Nordisk Film, the comedy, directed by Taneli Mustonen, went straight to number one on the Finnish top 10 with 83,381 admissions, making it the biggest opening of a Finnish film in 2016.

In the Finnish version, the three friends and old classmates are played by the Finnish star comedy actor Sami Hedberg, as well as Jaajo Linnonmaa and Aku Hirviniemi. The first Finnish remake sold a total of 505,376 tickets and was the second biggest local film in Finland in the last 25 years.

This is not the only remake Solar Films are doing: their TV arm Solar Republic is editing Konttori, a remake of the British mockumentary The Office, with Hedberg replacing Ricky Gervais as the hapless office manager.

The comedy is set to premiere on the SVOD platform Elisa in the spring 2017 and Nelonen will kick start the airing on linear TV in the fall 2017.
