THE OTHER SIDE OF HOPE to open Sarajevo

Aki Kaurismaki‘s The Other Side of Hope will open the Sarajevo Film Festival next month.

The film premiered earlier this year at the Berlin Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear for Best Director.

The Other Side of Hope tells the story of a travelling salesman of shirts in Helsinki quarrels with his wife and leaves her. He decides to leave the sales-business and goes for a long poker tour. With the won money he buys a restaurant. His three employees are first sceptical. But the restaurant doesn’t go well. A Syrian refugee, whom the authorities have given the negative answer has to be sent back to Aleppo when the Restaurant-owner finds him and hires him in his restaurant. The Syrian guy is looking for his sister, that he lost in the Balkan route. They try all together to help.

The film has been described as a twin to his previous work, 2011’s Le Havre.

The stars of The Other Side of Hope, actors Simon Al-Boozen and Sherwan Haji, will introduce the film to audiences.

The Sarajevo Film Festival runs from the 11th until the 18th of August.
