The Olsen Gang to be revived by Paradox

The most popular series in Scandinavia – The Olsen Gang – is returning to Norway thanks to Oslo’s Paradox Films.

The series is based on a Danish version of the same name and after the Norwegian version came a Swedish one. The series, which was released between 1969 and 1999, had a total of 14 films. The Danish version was written by Erik Balling and Henning Bahs and then released by Danish production company Nordisk. The films are based around the criminal genius Egon Olsen and his accomplices, Benny and Kjeld. Three of the movies still occupy spots one to three on the all-time top list of local cinema admissions in Denmark, having sold between 1 million and 1.2 million tickets.

The series was then picked up for a Norwegian version. The Swedish Jönsson Gang followed the formula of the Danish originals.

The reboot, which is called The Olsen Gang: A Spectacular Haul, will be directed by Arild Østin Ommundsen. The €4 million project that will shoot next year for a 2019 premiere.

Paradox is a Norwegian production with a known love for genre films. Last year, it released Norwegian director Erik Poppe’s The King’s Choice.

Ommundsen is known for his films Mongoland, It’s Only Make Believe and Now it’s Dark, which will be released in October.
