the Nordic selections for the Golden Globes

The nominees for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards were announced overnight, and two Nordic names have been nominated.

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who has had an incredible year in film, has been nominated for her roles in The Danish Girl (as lead actress) and Ex Machina (as supporting actress). Alicia is best known for her role in A Royal Affair, which did incredibly well in Denmark and around the world. She is now taking the world by storm, appearing in The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Burnt, Son of a Gun The Light Between Oceans.

The Finnish feature film The Fencer has been nominated for Best Foreign Language FilmDirected by Klaus Haro, the film follows a young Estonian fencer who is fleeing from the Russian secret police. He becomes a physical teacher at a local school, but it is not before long that the past catches up with him and forces him to make a difficult choice. This will be the first time in 58 years that Finland will be competing for the award, and the film is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to be nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards.


The winners will be announced on the 10th of January 2016.
