The Nordic Genre Industry gathers in Helsinki

via press release

The 2nd edition of the Nordic Genre Industry Days kicked off on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 in Helsinki, Finland. The two-day event is arranged in conjunction with the spring edition of the Night Visions International Film Festival, the biggest genre film event in the Nordic region.

Nordic Genre Industry Days focuses on upcoming genre cinema emerging from Scandinavia and features project presentations, pitches and case studies. This year there is a special focus on international genre co-productions and the genre co-production markets.

Among the international experts attending the event as speakers are Mr. Jongsuk Thomas Nam, the market director of Network Of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) of Bucheon, South Korea, Mr. Rodney Perkins, the director of the Fantastic Market of Fantastic Fest of Austin, U.S., and Mr. Sten Saluveer, the industry director of the Black Market of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival of Estonia as well as Todd Brown of XYZ Films and Julian Richards of the UK sales company Jinga Films.

The Nordic Genre Industry days is arranged in collaboration with Nordic Genre Invasion, a collaborative marketing and development effort of production companies from Scandinavia. In March 2016, the Nordic Genre Invasion collective made an impression at South by Southwest in Austin, US with a panel discussion in the official lineup of the SXSW Film Conference, a promotional evening event at Nordic Lighthouse and a sneak peek event for the Finnish feature films Bodom and Iron Sky The Coming Race, which are the two of the region’s most anticipated genre titles currently in post-production.

Helsinki will be crowded with even more genre filmmakers from the Nordic region this week when the first workshop of the Nordic Genre Boost initiative of Nordisk Film & TV Fond kicks off on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016.
