The Nordic films selected for the Bright Future section of the IFFR

The 47th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has announced the films that will be screening in the Bright Future main programme.

The Bright Future programme is aimed at young, emerging film talent.

The first of two Nordic films selected is The Heart from Swedish director Fanni Metelius. Fanni is perhaps best known for her leading role in Ruben Östlund’s 2014 film Force Majeure, where she played Fanny. In addition to directing, Fanni has also written, edited, and stars in the film.

The other Nordic film in the competition is The Return from director Malene Choi Jensen. This film follows two Danish-Korean adoptees who return home to Korea for the first time. As they learn their cultural heritage, they are put in an emotional journey that forces them to question their own destiny and identity. The Return is based on a mix of the director’s personal experience as well as stories shared by adoptees that Malene encountered in Seoul while shooting the film.

All the feature films in the competition are either having their world premieres or their international premieres, and each has a chance of winning the Bright Future Award, worth €10,000.
