The Nordic films screening at New Directors/New Films

The lineup for the 47th annual New Directors/New Films has been announced, with some Nordic films included in the list.

The festival celebrates film-makers who represent the present and anticipate the future of cinema. In total, 25 features and 10 shorts are going to be screened.

The first Nordic film screening is The Guilty which is directed by Gustav Möller and will be the New York premiere for the film. This crime thriller is set entirely within an emergency call centre and follows police officer Asger as he tries to figure out where a supposed kidnapping victim is, all through the phone. We reviewed the film in the new issue of Cinema Scandinavia, which you can order here. The Guilty will screen on the 30th and 31st of March.

The second film screening is Winter Brothers, which is directed by Hlynur Pálmason and also comes from Denmark. Winter Brothers is a visually stunning film that is set in an isolated Danish mining community and follows Emil, a lonely and eccentric young man who works in the mine with his brother. Winter Brothers will screen on the 29th and 31st of March. The event is held at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art and takes place from the 28th of March until the 8th of April. You can read more about it here.
