This year’s nominees for Sweden’s Guldbagge Awards have been announced, with The 101 Year Old Man Who Skipped Out on the Bill and Disappeared leading with eight nominations.

Other standout films include The Giant and My Aunt in Sarajevo with six nominations, My Future Love and A Serious Game with five nominations.

The Guldbagge Awards are the Swedish equivalent of the Academy Awards and are arranged by the Swedish Film Institute. A jury of 34 members selected the nominees, and the winners will be announced on the 23rd of January. Held annually since 1964, the Guldbagge (in English: Golden Beetle) is the name of the Swedish Film Institute’s award for achievements during the previous year.

The Award of Honour will be presented, as well as the Gullspira (for extraordinary contributions in films for children) and The Audience Award (three nominations to be announced 10 January). Also, the award for Best Newcomer will be presented. The award itself, in the form of a fantastical beetle, was designed by the artist Karl Axel Pehrson.
