THE NILE HILTON INCIDENT gets North American distribution

The upcoming Swedish film The Nile Hilton Incident has been picked up for North American distribution.

Strand Releasing will handle the theatrical release of the film, with a release date set for autumn this year. The deal was done by sales agency The Match Factory.

The Nile Hilton Incident is based on a true story set weeks before the 2011 Egyptian revolution. It follows Noredin (Fares Fares), a police officer in Cairo’s corrupt system, who investigates the murder of a famous club singer at the Nile Hilton Hotel. What initially looks like a crime of passion turns into a secret involving the elite of Egypt. Upon realising this, Noredin decides to break the rules in order to obtain justice, not just colliding with the system but also with himself.

The Nile Hilton Incident had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize for a Dramatic Film in the World Cinema section. It recently screened at the Seattle International Film Festival.

The film is directed by Tarik Saleh and a Scandinavian release is due for autumn this year.
