The new Sonja Henie biopic sells around the world

The Danish sales agency TrustNordisk has pre-sold the upcoming Sonja Henie biopic, Sonja – The White Swan, to major territories around the world, Variety reports.

The film has pre-sold to U.K./Ireland (Thunderbird Pictures), Korea (Atnine Film) and China (DD Dream Intl. Media), Russia CIS (Capella Film), Estonia (Estin Film) and Czech Republic, Slovakia (Cinemart). Sales are handled by TrustNordisk, who is showing the film at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The White Swan follows the life of Sonja Henie, one of the world’s greatest figure skaters. After winning gold at the Olympics three times, she moved to Hollywood in 1936 and became a major movie star, but various factors led her to lose her studio deal. The film will also depict her complicated relationship with her older brother, Leif, who taught her how to ice skate and was part of her acting career.

Norwegian actress Ine Marie Wilmann stars as Sonja Henie. The director is Anne Sewitsky, who previously won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance for her film Happy Happy. Other actors include Valene Kane, Eldar Skar, Pål Sverre Hagen and Anders Mordal.

The film will be released later this year.
