Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence has made it to the Oscar feature documentary shortlist, as was announced yesterday. The film, which serves as a companion piece to The Act of Killing, kicked off its festival circuit a year ago at the Venice Film Festival, where it also won the Grand Jury Prize.
The documentary focuses on the Indonesian genocide of 1965-66, and we follow a young optometrist named Adi Rukun who is searching for the men who killed is brother. He confronts them about their actions while he tests their eyesight.
