THE ETERNAL ROAD wins Best Nordic Film at the Santa Barbara Film Festival

The Santa Barbara International Film festival has announced its 2018 winners, and the winner of the Valhalla Award for Best Nordic film is Finland’s The Eternal Road.

The Eternal Road is a period drama based on true events that depicts the story of Jussi Ketola, who returns to Finland from the great depression in the USA only to face growing political unrest in his home country. One night, nationalist thugs abduct Ketola from his home. Beaten and forced to walk the Eternal Road towards the Soviet Russia, where cruelty seems to know no end, his only dream is to return to his family at any cost.

The jury of the 33rd Santa Barbara Film Festival said The Eternal Road tells a ‘fascinating story about an unknown period in history, featuring excellent performances, a gripping narrative with wonderful cinematography and production design.”

The Santa Barbara Int’l Film Festival has a whole Nordic programme, which you can view here.

The Eternal Road is directed by Antti-Jussi Annila and is currently nominated for 13 Jussi Awards, including Best Film and Best Director.
