The Bridge to be remade in Russia

The Swedish/Danish crime series The Bridge is set to be adapted for the Russian market, Endemol announced on Monday. Russia’s NTV Channel has commissioned Endemol partner Weird Media to produce twenty episodes based on the original scripted format from the Scandinavian series.

In the Russian version, investigator Maxim Kazantsev (Mikhail Porechenkov) and Estonian detective Inga Savisaar (Ingeborga Dapkunaite) team up to hunt down a serial killer operating in the two countries.

Production will begin on the series in June, with the premiere set for next year. Season two will be filmed consecutively.

The Bridge debuted in Sweden and Denmark in 2011 and has since sold to 157 territories. The U.K. adaptation aired on BBC4 to an average audience of 1.49 million viewers and the 10 episodes screened were the highest-rated shows for the channel in 2015.
