Swedish director Lukas Moodysson to create HBO’s first original Scandinavian series

Swedish director Lukas Moodysson will write and direct HBO’s first Scandinavian original television series, Gösta.

Moodysson’s debut film Show Me Love (1998) propelled him into Swedish cinema fame, and his latest film We Are the Best! (2013) won him 13 festival prizes.

Gösta tells the story of a 28-year-old child psychologist who moves from Stockholm to a rural town, where he rents a cottage in the woods. He wants to be the kindest man in the world, helping everyone out with varied results. The series is set to be a mix of comedy and drama and will have eight episodes.

Production will start in Sweden next year with a release due for 2019.
