Sweden hits 64% female director funding in 2016

Following a gender equality event in Cannes, Sweden has announced that in 2016 64% of the Swedish Film Institute’s funding went to female directors.

This means that between 2013-16, the SFI funding was exactly 50% female and male.

Anna Serner, the CEO of the Swedish Film Institute, says that this year she expects the percentage of funding to female directors by the SFI this year to be 40%.

The Swedish Film Institute, for the second year,  hosted a Cannes seminar about gender equality.
