‘Skam’ heading to the Danish stage

The hugely popular Norwegian web series Skam will be heading to the stage in Denmark.

Jon Stephensen, the director of Copenhagen’s theatre Aveny T has secured the rights to Skam’s four seasons. The play will run until 2021, which each year to focus on a different character from the series. The first performance will focus on Eva and will run from September to October this year. The second performance will focus on Noora, and will premiere on the 6th of April 2018.

The television series Skam is about the daily life of teenagers who attend the Hartvig Nissen School in Oslo. Each season has a main character, and throughout the week a new clip, conversation or social media post is published on the NRK website, allowing visitors to follow the series on a daily basis. The series is created by Julie Andem.

Andem won’t be involved in the stage version.

The fourth season is focusing on the Muslim observant Sana (played by Iman Meskini). The season premiered this month to positive reviews.

An English-language version is currently in development, produced by American Idol’s creator Simon Fuller (XIX Entertainment).
