The Swedish actress Tuva Novotny has had her major international break, starring alongside Natalie Portman in the new Netflix sci-fi thriller Annihilation, which is directed by Alex Garland.

Novotny has starred in a number of Nordic films in recent years, including Borg/McEnroe, The King’s Choice and also starred in the television series Nobel.

In Annihilation, she plays a geologist in a team leaded by Lena (Natalie Portman), who is searching for the reason her husband has returned home ill from a secret military mission. Lena was told that her husband was investigating a mysterious, shimmering region sealed off by the U.S. government, and he is the only one to have returned home alive.

At the moment, Tuva Novotny is working on her directorial debut.
