The second season of the Swedish crime series Spring Tide is now in production.
The series explores cold cases through the protagonist Olivia Rönning (Julia Ragnarsson). The first season focused on a case from 1990, where a sadistic murder of a pregnant woman is committed on the island of Nordkoster. She is buried alive in the sand so that the rising tide will slowly down her. Rönning is assigned the case and, upon discovering her late father worked on the original case, Olivia becomes obsessed with solving the murder. She searches for the lead investigator Tom Stilton (Kjell Bergqvist), who has since become homeless and does not want to be reminded of his old life. Horrifying videos soon show up on the Internet in which other homeless people are brutally attacked including a friend of Stilton’s. Soon Stilton is helping Olivia to solve the murder.
In the second season, Rönning and Stilton find each other again when the murder of a circus performer in Marseille, France, links back to the suicide of a customs official. Their investigation leads them into the cynical world of risk capital where money is being milked from the Swedish welfare system.
The series is based on a novel by Rolf and Cilla Börjlind, and the second season will premiere in autumn 2018 on Swedish television. No international release has been announced.
