Ruben Östland’s THE SQUARE UK release delayed

The upcoming premiere of Ruben Östlund‘s The Square has been delayed in the United Kingdom, ScreenDaily reports.

Östlund is making some edits to his film, which recently won the Palme d’Or at this years Cannes Film Festival.

UK distributor Curzon Artificial Eye confirmed that he is making minor edits to the film, and as such its planned release on the 25th of August has been delayed.

A new release date will be announced shortly.

At the festival, Östlund criticised those attacking his 142-minute film length, saying:

“Give me a break… We subject children to Harry Potter[and] that is over two and a half hours. We watch theatre that is over three hours long. Yes, I understand there is a certain time slot for distributors but really, I think it is silly.”

It is not known if the edits affect the length.
