Roy Andersson Preparing new film called ‘1001 Nights’

Roy Andersson has revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that his new film will be titled One Thousand and One Nights. The film is about ‘endlessness’ – inspired by a collection of Middle Eastern and Indian tales.

“The collection has been ‘a source of inspiration, especially in terms of narrative structure but also in terms of the abundant imaginativeness contained in the collection,” says the director who will use a Scheherazade-like storyteller. “The things she talks about is what we see in the pictures, in the filmed scenes,” explains Andersson in a statement. But the idea is to go one step further, in the sense that the people we meet in these image-set stories also can tell about situations, which in turn are cinematically visualized. “

One Thousand One Nights will be produced by Andersson’s Studio 24. Philippe Bober’s Co-production Office will co-produce and handle world sales.
