Pre-production starts on season two of Denmark’s ‘Below the Surface’

The hit Danish hostage series Below the Surface will get a second season, with pre-production underway.

Set in Copenhagen, season one followed the hijacking of a subway train, where fifteen people were held hostage. The series follows the crisis over a period of eight days. The terror taskforce, led by Philip Nørgaard and Louis Falck, is dispatched to rescue the hostages. Reporter Naja Toft acts as a go-between between the hostages and police as the captors bait the press with information.

Not much is known of the second season, including whether or not it’ll follow the same storyline or feature a new hostage situation. Hopefully they don’t do what Norway’s The Wave is doing for their sequel and have the characters go through a natural disaster again. It would really be unfortunate for the hostages if they became hostages again in season two!

Below the Surface season two will be shot on location in Denmark and air on Kanal 5 in 2019. No international release date has been announced.
