Pål Sverre Hagen to star as explorer Roald Amundsen in new film

The Norwegian actor Pål Sverre Hagen has been confirmed to be starring as the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen in the upcoming biopic creatively titled Amundsen.

The film will be directed by Espen Sandberg, who had his international breakthrough alongside Joachim Rønning with 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean film, which the two directed. Rønning is still working in Hollywood, but Sandberg has returned back to Norway.

Espen Sandberg and Pål Sverre Hagen worked together in 2012’s Kon-Tiki, the massively successful Norwegian film about the expedition across the Pacific Ocean. Now the two have reunited for another big expedition film, this time about the first person to reach the South Pole, Roald Amundsen.

The cast includes Christian Rubeck, Ruby Dagnall and Ida Ursin-Holm.

Shooting has started in Iceland. The film will also shoot in the Czech Republic, Oslo and Svartskog. The release date will be around February 2019, possibly for the Berlin Film Festival.
