From the outset, the plan was to Nymphomaniac be distributed in multiple versions. This was done to ensure the film’s the greatest cinema distribution worldwide, and to ensure Lars von Trier highest possible artistic freedom in this very comprehensive work.

The short version, which had Danish theaters on December 25, 2013, was the acceptance by Lars von Trier, but without his interference in general. Technically speaking consisted editing in the most explicit pictures of genitals were cut out, and the film was also in agreement with Lars von Trier, cut short by his editors to total long as 4 hours. But now there’s so final opportunity to enjoy the 5 ½ hours long and uncensored movie that Lars von Trier originally intended it.
