Norwegian docs for VOD

A catalogue of 150 Norwegian documentaries from the last decade, including such films as Norwegian director Gunhild Westhagen Magnor’s The Optimists (Optimistene), will shortly be available for international VOD services – Canal Digital Go, T-We, Get, Xbox, Altibox, Netflix and Cmore.

Inspired by Danish initiative

Inspired by a Danish initiative, Norwegian producer Carsten Aanonsen, of Indie Film, is behind the new strategy which will increase the access to the Norwegian repertoire, give the films a longer life and improve the opportunities of documentary distribution.

According to Aanonsen, the VOD channels are less likely to negotiate rights for a single film – they prefer package deals; Danish producers signed a deal with Netflix for 40 films, which for a two-year period were reachable under “Danish documentaries”.

Strong interest

Aanonsen told Norwegian film magazine Rushprint, that he and his collaborator – Nina Mino Thorud – have met strong interest for the project from Norwegian producers: more than 30 companies have written letters of intent to make their productions available through the catalogue.
