Norwegian director Joachim Trier to be Jury President of the 57th Semaine de la Critique

The Norwegian director Joachim Trier has been selected as the Jury President of La Semaine de la Critique, or International Critics Week, which takes place as part of the Cannes Film Festival.

Trier is known for his outstanding films, both set in Norway and abroad. His first two features Reprise and Oslo, 31 August show hints of French New Wave as they explore young men in the Norwegian capital. He then went abroad for Louder Than Bombs, which won the Nordic Council Film Prize, before returning home to release Thelma, his play with the supernatural genre.

La Semaine de la Critique presents films that are either the first or second feature from the director, with the goal of supporting emerging talents. Trier will join a prominent figure of American independent cinema, actress and director Chloë Sevigny, the Argentinian actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, recent César winner for his role in Robin Campillo’s 120 Beats Per Minute, Eva Sangiorgi, the new Italian director of the Viennale, the Vienna International Film Festival and the French culture journalist Augustin Trapenard.

The 57th Semaine de la Critique will be held in Cannes from the 9th of May to the 17th of May. The selection of films will be announced on the 16th of April.
