The Nordisk Film and TV Fond has announced its April round of support, with funding going to films being talked about at Cannes.

Borg/McEnroe was granted NOK 2.5 million and is produced by Jon Nohrstedt and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro for SF Studios. The cast was announced in Cannes and includes Shia LaBeouf, Sverrir Gudnason and Stellan Skarsgård. The film will be directed by the Dane Janus Metz and the film is written by Ronnie Sandahl, who wrote Underdog. The film focuses on two tennis legends who realise that their worst enemies might also be the only ones who understand you.

Filming starts this autumn with the film due for release autumn 2017. The film is co-produced by Filmväst, Nordisk Film, SVT, Finland’s Yellow Film & TV, Denmark’s SF Film Production, with support from the Swedish Film Institute, and MEDIA. Nordisk Film holds Scandinavian distribution rights and SF Studios International handles world sales.

Secondly, The Square was granted NOK 2.15 million. Directed by Ruben Ostlund, the film stars Elisabeth Moss, Claes Bang (The Bridge) and Christopher Læssø (Shit Happens). The film is set in the international art world, and release is due for Cannes 2017. Filming starts this June.

Last but not least, the thriller series Farang was granted NOK 2 million. Malin Lagerlöf (Thicker than Water) has created the show together with Stefan Thunberg (Wallander) and shares the writing duties with Niklas Rockström, Veronica Zacco and Anders Sparring. Matador Film is co-producing with C-More/TV4. The series will premiere on CMore in 2017.
