New Finnish television drama in development

A new Finnish television drama titled Reindeer Mafia is in development, the Nordic Film & TV Fund reports.

Reindeer Mafia (Poromafia) tells the story of the reindeer-rich Nelihanka family that rules the county of Utsjoki through property grabs and blackmail. The eldest son Jyppyrä who runs the Wolverine SC snowmobile club becomes the challenger of this cosa nostra of the far north. At stake in the clash between the two criminal factions is not only the control of the fell village but the future of traditional Sami lifestyle.

The high-end series is based on a novel by Mikko-Pekka Heikkinen of the same name. The film was bought by Liisa Penttilä-Asikainen, the CEO of Kaiho Republic, who will produce the film. The names of the writers and creators are still to be announced.

Kaiho Republic has several other exciting titles in the works, including the TV comedy Love is in the Air, which is a remake of an award-winning German series. The story is about men and women in their seventies attending a speed dating event. They are also producing East of Sweden, which follows a chance encounter between three people that has life-changing consequences.
