The American actress Katherine Waterston has been confirmed as joining the cast of Amundsen, Variety reports.
Amundsen is a biopic about the first person to travel to both the North and the South Poles, Roald Amundsen. Starring Pål Sverre Hagen as Roald Amundsen, the film will depict how Amundsen won his epic race to the South Pole, beating Robert Scott and the British Empire, as well as shed led on aspects of Amundsen’s private life, including secret affairs and his troubled but close relationship with his brother.
Other cast members include Christian Rubeck as Amundsen’s brother, whose recent credits include Nobel and What Happened to Monday. Waterston is best known for her role in Fantastic Beasts as well as Alien: Covenant. She will be playing Amundsen’s last love, Bess Magids.
Amundsen is directed by the Norwegian Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and is represented by SF Studios, which will also distribute the movie across Scandinavia. John M. Jacobsen, Kristian Strand Sinkerud and Espen Horn at Motion Blur Films. Shooting is set to take place in Iceland, Czech Republic and Norway.
Amundsen is expected to be released theatrically in early 2019.
