Mikael Birkkjær joins the cast of ‘The Bridge’

Borgen star Mikael Birkkjær has joined the cast of the fourth and final series of The Bridge, which is currently shooting in Copenhagen.

Not much is known of his role, but in Borgen, Birkkjær played Philip Christensen, Birgitte Nyborg’s (Sidse Babett Knudsen) husband. Also appearing in the fourth season is the daughter of Danish director Ole Bornedal, Fanny Leander Bornedal. Sofia Helin and Thure Lindhardt will reprise their roles as Saga Noren and Danish detective Henrik Sabroe respectively.

Most of the fourth season will take place in Copenhagen and will be more ‘Danish’ than ‘Swedish’. Due to this, the funding body Copenhagen Film Fund (who have funded big-name projects like Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl), have allocated nearly half a million euros (€470,664 to be exact) to the production of the season.

The fourth season of The Bridge will premiere on SVT and DR on the 1st of January 2018. No international release date has been announced, though it is inevitable.
