The Swedish/French series Midnight Sun has been picked up by the British pay channel Sky Atlantic.
In the series, the brutal murder of a French citizen sees French homicide investigator Kahina Zadi (Leïla Bekhti) go to Kiruna in northern Sweden. Together with Rutger Burlin (Peter Stormare) she begins an investigation that soon takes on staggering proportions.
The series was produced by Sweden’s Nice Drama and France’s Atlantique Productions and had its French premiere on Canal+. The first two episodes were watched by 850,000 people, making it the best start for an original series since 2013. In Sweden, the series debuted on SVT at the end of October to a 39.7% share, attracting an audience of 1,550,000 + 260,000 online viewers.
The deal was negotiated by world distributor Studiocanal, adding to a number of sales already closed with Australia (SBS), Belgium (VRT), Benelux (Lumiere), Denmark (DR), Finland (MTV3), Germany (ZDF), Iceland (RUV), Israel (HOT) and Norway (NRK).
