Iceland’s PRISONERS wins ten Edda Awards

The Icelandic television drama Prisoners has won ten Edda Awards, which is the annual film and television awards in Iceland. Their wins include TV Fiction of the Year, Editing of the Year and Cinematography of the Year.

Prisoners is directed by Ragnar Bragason and follows Linda, who is sent to serve time in Iceland’s only women’s prison after she is accused of an assault on her father, which left him in a coma fighting for life. However, the case is not that simple, with Linda keeping a dark family secret hidden. As she spends time in the prison, we get to know the other prisoners and their backstories.

Prisoners has just been picked up by AMC Networks in the USA.

We interviewed the creators of Prisoners, which you can read here.

The other big winner of the night was the comedy Under the Tree, which won seven prizes including Director of the Year and Screenplay of the Year. Under the Tree follows the escalation of a neighbour dispute over a shadow cast by a tree. We interviewed the director, Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, for our new magazine, which you can preorder here.
