Icelandic actress Hera Hilmar to star in Peter Jackson film

Icelandic actress Hera Hilmar has been cast as the female lead of Universal and MRC’s adaptation of Philip Reeve’s Mortal Engines, which is written and produced by New Zealand’s Peter Jackson.

Mortal Engines is set thousands of years into the future, with Earth’s cities now roaming the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle over diminishing resources. On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands, who will change the course of his life forever.

Production begins in New Zealand in spring, with the release set for the end of 2018.

Like other novel adaptations, multiple films are planned to come from the series. The series is comprised of four books, so perhaps we should expect to see 5-6 films with Hilmar.

Hera Hilmar was recently in Baltasar Kormakur’s The Oath.
