Iceland selects UNDER THE TREE for the Oscars

Iceland has chosen its entry for the Academy Awards!

Under the Tree, which is directed by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, will represent Iceland in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the Academy Awards.

The film premiered in the Orrizonti programme at the Venice International Film Festival, and so far has been sold to China, France and Scandinavia. After screening at the Toronto International Film Festival it was also picked up for North American distribution. Under the Tree had its domestic release on the 6th of September and has so far had 18,000 admissions.

Under the Tree tells the story of Atli, who is thrown out by his fiancee and is no longer allowed to see their four-year-old daughter. While living with his parents and fighting for custody of his daughter, a bitter dispute breaks out with the neighbours about a big and beautiful tree in the backyard.
