German digital channel joins Danish television series

The German digital channel ZDFneo has come on board as co-producer for the Danish crime thriller series, Below the Surface, which is currently being presented at the Berlinale Special Series.

The eight-part series is created by Kasper Barfoed and is produced by Sam Productions for Discovery Network Denmark/Kanal 5. The original concept comes from Adam Price, who wrote Borgen, and Søren Sveistrup, who wrote The Killing, and follows an operation to rescue fifteen hostages from a Copenhagen subway train. The series stars Johannes Lassen, Sara Hjort Ditlevsen and Paprika Steen.

With ZDFneo on board, a German release of the series will likely happen. ZDFneo is part of the German broadcasting group ZDF and focuses on younger audiences aged between 25 and 49.

Below the Surface is being released in Denmark in spring, and will also air on Kanal 5 in Sweden, TV Norge in Norway, and RUV in Iceland.
