GAME OF THRONES may be heading to Sweden

The internationally popular series Game of Thrones could be filming its next season in Sweden, so the rumour mill says.

Nothing is confirmed, but local newspaper Hela Gotland revealed on Tuesday that HBO (the producers of Game of Thrones) expressed an interest in filming on the Swedish island Gotland back in August.

For the Bergman fans, Gotland is the island just south of Bergman’s, Fårö.

The network was in touch with The Line Gotland – a Swedish company that insists with film and television productions – last summer.

One of The Line’s founders spoke to The Local Sweden, saying:

“The Stockholm film region contacted us and said Game of Thrones had been in touch and were looking at Visby. They wanted to have some official pictures from the town. So we took new ones of the town and the island and sent it on to them. That’s how it started,” The Line founder and executive producer Olivia Munck explained.

HBO requested images, so it’s currently a wait to see if Sweden will be chosen.
